Nitaqat category was launched in the year 2011 by labor ministry under the law. The purpose of introducing this category was to increase the number of job opportunities for the Saudi nationals rather than the immigrants. This Nitaqat category represents four different colors. These four categories of colors include Red, Yellow, Green and Platinum. Each company will fall in one of the four categories. Number of Saudi employees working in every company will determine the category of the company. This program was designed to provide more benefits to the Saudi nationals over the expatriates. In this program companies are classified as Platinum/Green/Yellow/Red Company. These colors are given according to the percentage of Saudi workers working in different companies. Higher the percentage of Saudi employees working in any particular company higher are the benefits offered to the employees of the company.

White Color Category:

This category does not come under Nitaqat system. This category is allotted to those companies which are having less number of Saudi employees. Let’s have a look on four categories under Nitaqat system. These are all different from one another due to the different percentage of Saudi employees working in companies.

Platinum Color and Green Color Category:

Platinum category is allotted to those company’s in Saudi Arab which are having approximately forty percent Saudi employees. Green Category is assigned to those companies which are having nearly twelve percent Saudi employees. Employees of both (Green and Platinum) category can get visa easily within the duration of every two months. Employees of both (Green and Platinum) category can easily renew Iqamas. This can be done before three months of Iqama’s expiry. Both categories can switch employee’s professions. It means that they are eligible to change the professions. Both (Green and Platinum) categories under (Red and Yellow) categories can hire new employees. It means that employees coming from other companies are welcomed.

Yellow Color Category:

All companies in Saudi Arab which are having approximately seven percent of Saudi employees are classified as yellow category. 
Yellow category has its own benefits and flaws as:
  • On two workers sponsorship depart, one new visa will be granted. 
  • Transfer between other sponsors are not allowed in this category.
  • Employees who have completed the duration of four years in the company are not allowed to re new their Iqama’s. 
  • Employees who want to move forward toward the platinum or green color category cannot be stopped. 

Red Color Category: 

Any company in Saudi Arab having at least four percent of Saudi employees is categorized as Red category. Companies and hence their workers coming under Red category are unable to avail the benefits provided by the Ministry of Labor. 
These include: 
  • New visas are not granted to the immigrants. 
  • New employees from other companies are not accepted in the company. 
  • Allowing employees to go for platinum or green category companies. 
  • Employees are not given the facility to renew the Iqamas. 
  • Employees are found helpless to change their professions.
